DAY 2 – Tuesday in Valladolid – Peñafiel – Aranda del Duero

Wake up! After breakfast, we are driving to the Golden Mile.  The first stop will be in a relatively new awarded winery from one of the most prestigious winemakers in Spain.  They will guide us following the same way the grapes do as they are processed during harvest, and you will explore the five levels of their gravity-led winery, followed by a tasting of their gems (collector items).  The second stop will be to visit a unique winery where the extraordinary conditions capture the landscape in each bottle. On a tour of the different territories you will be able to explore and learn about the history of each project, its vineyards and winemaking processes. During the visit to the facilities you will enjoy six gastronomic proposals along with the tasting of six wines from the different vineyards.  A tapas experience in harmony with their wines, from their Michelin restaurant will follow.

Lunch/Dinner will take place on a secret hidden gem.  Well, no secrets here… We will visit a underground cellar from the 15th century, to have an over the top Rioja vs Ribera tasting , followed by lunch in one of the top award winning Asadores in Spain.  You will end up hugging the female chef behind this amazing spot that only locals know about.

DAY 3 – Wednesday Sardón del Duero, La Vid

After breakfast, we will drive to one of the Grande Pagos of Spain, located in the “Golden Mile“.  We will tour the spectacular estate in a private 4×4 vehicle, visiting their vineyards, the Duero river, the pine forests and exploring the flora and fauna of the area.  The experience will not end until we make a stop to have a “farm-to-table” lunch and a tasting of their wines produced under the Grandes Pagos classification (collectors items).   After that we will go back to the hotel for a show cooking with a “vino en porrón” class for lunch/dinner.  The late afternoon will be open for you to explore nature, the Peñaranda town and Castle or the Monastery Santa María de La Vid on your own.  Although you can also exercise, take a siesta or schedule another visit at the spa on your own.

DAY 4 – Thursday Soria, Valladolid, Segovia

After a very early breakfast, we will drive to our last winery in Ribera del Duero.  Here we are gonna explore a winery at almost 3,300 feet above sea level in the region of Soria, an area considered by many to be an ethnographic jewel from a viticulturalist’s perspective. In this valley you will find pre-phylloxera vines of a unique ancestral clone of the Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grape variety that have been preserved through the centuries.  After the tasting paired with one of the best protected cheeses in Spain, we will drive to the city of Valladolid. We will try our best to give you an hour or two to enjoy a coffee, do some shopping or take a selfie at the Plaza Mayor.  Then straight to Rueda DO, to have a superb tasting at one of the most exclusive wineries. They will cook the most typical dish in town to show us how Verdejo pairs to perfection with local food. For dessert a magical scenery will be waiting for you.  Then free time to check-in and enjoy the night.

Sandra Hill

“How does one capture the beauty of a week in Spain with Doreen? I’ve traveled Spain and toured vineyards extensively; however, Vitis House and Doreen elevated the experience into memories that cannot be made independently. We savored Spain’s wine, food, history, and culture. We learned and laughed. My heart will forever be full of the memories. It is a truly unique experience. We are excited about future trips with Vitis House!”
